(D3 MM Event) The Best Defense

Postby Nekoinu » Wed Sep 04, 2019 8:42 am

Event Type: Combat
Participants: 3
Timeslots: MM

Description:
Local Jawas have requested extra support in transporting their goods after speaking with Orella. Several transports have been raided as of late. Rather than sharing their fate, they hope that the caravan will be protected in that time.

Xavien has a different idea. Rather than act as protection, he wants to go for a more proactive approach in wiping out the bandits. His rationale is that the clan can earn both payment from the Jawas and take any of the bandits ill-gotten goods.

Ultimately, the call of credits came to be more exciting. While certainly more profitable, there was risk to attacking them head-on. They were likely to know the desert better and might be able to harass the traders another time, lest they all be slain.

With the base in range in the midst of a sandstorm, it would be easy to get to them. However, firing shots will be more difficult. In addition, it's clear that the bandits are already planning on packing their goods...

Rules:
Before the combat starts, there is a stealth phase. The group will start at Long Range and roll a Stealth Check at Average Difficulty. Each player gains a Boost due to the sandy weather. For each success, count as having made one maneuver closer to the base, to a maximum of Short Range. For each failure in the team, the rest of the team will lose one "maneuver" closer.

Advantage / Threat will work differently. The total Advantage / Threat will be pooled at the end and spent as a group. For Advantage, time will be on their side and Threat the opposite. Advantage may also allow players to negate some of the failure penalties.

Note that the sandstorm will inflict Two Setback Dice to all attack rolls. One of these can be reduced by goggles or similar items.

Riza, knowing the planetside and being adept at this particular mission, signed herself up to be part of the desert team. As the hunt before, she utilized the sand and the dunes to a passable effort in moving through the desert.

With her understanding of the outdoors, she moved through the conditions like one born to them.

Rose's thermal cloak fluttered as the storm whipped around them. The enhanced optics in her armour scanned the surroundings, overlaying the pertinent data in her field of view. Without even realising, the redhead was mentally making adjustments to account for the high winds and increased scattering effect of the airborne sand.

Coryn was equipped for exactly these types of scenario. His thermal cloak was rapped around his scout armour, and his Hunting Goggles cut out the interference from the sandstorm. With a full load of combat gear he was ready for whatever would be thrown at them.

It seemed they were going to get the drop on the bandits today...

The sand helps, but the teams abilities are whatr really matter as they approacx within easy striking distance of the raiders forces.

As they emerged from the storm into the compound Coryn was as ready as he could be. His EE-3 was locked and loaded. He prepared to take down bandits or cover his comrades as required.

Closing range, Rose skimmed the data being provided by her armour. So far, it looked like they had the drop on their targets, not that the advantage would last long once the shooting started.

From the closer vantage point, the group can tell that the bandits appear to me unloading items from their various speeders. Likely spoils from a recent raid. They don't know the approaching Mandolorian's and are somewhat slow to react

"Ambush!" The leader screamed as he was shot twice. Though he didn't go down, at least not yet. Still as injuries as he was, it was time to try and let the boys handle it. So he moved to cover and directed his goons to attack.

Action: cover +1 ranged defense, will spend an destiny to upgrade any attacks against him.

Moving in alongside Coryn Riza came in firing off a volley on the first group of bandits she saw, Cutting down the numbers as quickly as she could. Less bodies, less people to carry away loot, and fewer chances any of them will escape.

Riza, continuing her assault, moved forward so that she had a better angle on all of the remaining bandits. Though, from this spot she gained a good advantage her shots went a bit wide and missed their original target.

Dropping the tents and canopy around them with a few accidentally well placed blaster bolts, Riza effectively took a few of their combatants out of the fight for a time but better yet kept them from getting to the speeders to escape.

"Just cleanup now," Riza said over the internal comms in her suit. A grin, evident to only herself, lay upon her expression.

Seeing the speeders shit then covered by their canopy was rather unnerving the last pair of men, sent a pair of shots at Rose before running towards the Desert, and away from their friends.

The last group meanwhile spent the time to trying to cut their way out of the Canopy
