The Resol'nare

Postby Nekoinu » Wed Jul 10, 2019 2:34 pm

The Resol’nare is a set of tenets that all Mandalorians are expected to follow. To fail to do so is to be dar’manda, a soulless being, one that would not pass on to the afterlife. Anyone, regardless of species or background, can become one of the Mandalorians as long as they follow the code.

Wearing armor.
Perhaps the most iconic part of the culture is their distinctive armor. Just as the Jedi of old would seem amiss without a lightsaber, Mandalorians are seldom seen without these suits. Traditionally made from beskar, this is not a strict requirement for armor due to pragmatic concerns.

Speaking the language.
Mando’a is the language the unites the different people’s that have banded together under a singular culture. Change in it is discouraged, as it is expected that groups across the galaxy could not meet for centuries and still be able to understand each other.

Defending oneself and one’s family.
Most know the Mandalorians to be warriors. While undeniable to their people, what may be unexpected is that the foremost reason for combat expertise is protection. Retreat in itself is not inherently dishonorable, but to not stand one’s ground alongside kinsmen is heinous.

Raising children to be Mandalorians.
To be Mandalorian is to be a part of a culture, not a species. Without the teachings being passed on, the Mandalorians would cease to exist. While not strictly stated, there is a cultural expectation for every Mandalorian to sire or adopt heirs to their direct family line.

Contributing to the clan’s welfare.
A Mandalorian’s clan serves as both a government and also an extended family. The bonds between clansmen are meant to transcend blood relations, though biological relation is still valued highly. Contributions are vaguely defined and usually constitute tasks rather than material requests.

Obeying the call of Mand’alor.
Despite rivalries among the clans, all are expected to heed the words of Mand’alor. Bo-katan Kryze ultimately disbanded the House system, as she deemed it to foster conflicting loyalties between its people. The Darksaber is the current token of office for one to be considered Mand’alor.
