Clan Laerrin

Rose had wandered down to the hanger. She'd heard about the Basalisk and was overcome with curiosity. She had her datapad in hand, studying the war droid. There was a set of schematics on the screen, the woman making notes with a stylus.

The sounds of laughter echoed across the hanger. It appeared to be coming from one of the flight simulators.

"Waaahoooooo! Pew pew mofo, pew frickin' pew!"

"Sounds like you're winning," Rose called out over the noise, without looking up from the notes she was making.

"Pause program." There was the sound of a simulator door opening, followed by exaggerated stretching and then footsteps.

"Yeah, just getting my hours in. Jetpack simulator's the best I'm gonna get for a while. That's quite the machine you'e got there." A smart, well-kept, human with a fashionable beard and clean overalls approached and offered a hand. "I'm Coryn Kusat. Pleasure to meet you I'm sure."

"Oh no, none of this is mine," she clarified, shaking his hand firmly, "Rose Sorenn, wandering tech addict." She was wearing pair of aged khaki coveralls over her bodyglove and heavy workboots. There were tools in the various clips and loops.

"Tech junkie huh? Well I'm glad to meet you Rose." He looked up at the assorted armaments on the droid and wondered where the Laerrins had got it from.

"So what are this thing's main weaknesses? Once it's up and running." He put his hands on his hips and looked up at the bristling weapons.

“Honestly, not a lot,” Rose checked her notes. “Heavily armoured, extensive loadout, capable of ground, atmosphere, and space combat—both ranged and melee,” her comments seemed to be more thinking out loud than lecturing.

“They probably manuevered like they look, though.” A slender finger indicated to the bug-like aft section, “there’s no stabiliser fin, atmospheric flight would be about as agile as thrusters on a shipping container.”

"Gotcha. So...jetpack wins again! Sweet." He chuckled. "Not that I'd want to fight one of these but it's always good to know."

Coryn took a walk around the deactivated droid and nodded at the lack of a stabiliser. "You mando'ade Rose? Or looking for cin vhetin?" Axel wasn't Mando, and didn't know much about the whole deal. He wondered if that was pretty common among the Laerrins new crew.

Frowning, Rose looked back down at her datapad, she hadn’t understood all of what Coryn had said, but guessed the answer to both questions was no. “I’m not,” she stated firmly, without equivocation or embarrassment.

He nodded and gave her a friendly smile. "Looks like there's a good mix of Mandalorians and newcomers then. If you ever want to learn the lingo I'd be happy to help."

His eyes wandered around the hanger bay. The fighters interested him but he'd never had any formal space flight training.

"Have you known the Laerrins long Rose?"

"Known?" Rose chuckled, "I've barely met them." Shrugging one shoulder carelessly, "I was told this was a good opportunity, so I thought I would check it out." Studying Coryn's clean-cut countenance, "you seem to know what's what, though," she left the statement open-ended.

"Heh, yeah, you could say that. I've known the Laerrins a while. It's a huge honour to be asked to form a clan, figured I'd come help 'em out." He gave her a professional once over then returned his attention to the droid.

"Looks like they've been keeping pretty damned busy. Don't remember them owning a murder droid before."

"I can't imagine where they got it," Rose's voice took on a wondrous tone, "these things haven't been used in thousands of years. I'm amazed it's still holding together." Almost gushing, "I'd love to try and replicate one, I wouldn't dare to tinker with an artefact as rare as this, but if these specs are true, they were incredible."

Coryn stroked his beard in thought. "I didn't realise it was such a rare thing. When and where is it from them? Sounds like you know a lot about it Rose."

Shrugging, “I know what I read. When I heard they had a Basalisk, I looked it up. I managed to pull down some incomplete specs, some fanciful tales of them bonding to their riders like animals, but everything I could find was old. Very, very old.”

"Bonding? Like a Dewback or something? Huh. That's pretty crazy." He squinted at it curiously and then shrugged. "Well, I like my tech, but that's way beyond me. Glad you're on the team. Have you met many of the other new recruits? I'm sharing a room with Axel Ward. Big guy, looks like he's been in a fight or two."

“He’s hard to miss,” Rose smirked, “bumped into him earlier.” Her hands fluttered, bird-like, “I’ve also met Riza. Still a long way from collecting the whole set, though.”

"Haha, that's the one! I haven't met Riza yet, won't take long though I'm sure. We'll all know each other pretty well in no time." He gave her a polite smile and thumbed in the direction of the simulators. "If you ever fancy teaming up for some simulator training let me know. I'm only rated for atmosphere but I'm game for whatever."

“Sounds like a blast, not that I have any experience with any kind of piloting. Never too late to learn, right?” She flicked a lock of tousled hair, it was hard to tell if it was out of place or not, her pixie-cut intentionally messy.

"That's the spirit! I can show you a bunch of speeder and atmospheric programmes, then we can both go out of our depth and try some space flight sims." He chuckled amicably. "Say. I don't suppose you're a sports fan are you Rose? I'm planning to watch some games with Axel."
